Tutorial: Using bookmarking sites like Protopage and Delicious

Bookmarking sites are so useful. I love them, and I wish that I had used them back when I was teaching full-time. Why should teachers (or really anyone) think about using a bookmarking site? The most important advantage is you can access your bookmarks from anywhere, and the second great feature about them is you can share your favorite sites with other people.

I have used Protopage and Delicious as bookmarking sites, and each offers different features. There are a number of other sites out there, as well. Finding the right site that offers the features you like is important.

I use my Protopage site to bookmark all of the links that are in my online courses. I’ve added sites that I find when doing research. Often, when I drive I listen to NPR, and I often hear news stories that inspire lesson ideas. I bookmark those so I can use them in the future. I have bookmarked colleagues’ sites, giving me even more information to look into when I need help or ideas for a lesson. Again, what is  great is I can access and add to the these bookmarks anywhere, and I can choose if I want to make them public or private.

Here’s a tutorial that will help you get started if you are interested in creating a site with Protopage or Delicious. Please let me know if you have any questions! Enjoy!
